Role of English
in
School Curriculum

Introduction
Prior to have a discussion on the role of English in the school curriculum, it is advisable to concentrate on the factors which are closely associated with the importance of leaning English as a second language (L2) at school. Once the students successfully complete their English lessons in the school curriculum from Grade-1 to Grade- 13, it is assumed that they will benefit the following advantages.
1.
Communicative competence in all
language skills (listening skill, speaking skill, reading skill and writing
skill)
2.
Learning any subject, the
students are willing to study in English medium for GCE OL or GCE AL
Examinations
3.
After entering the university,
they are able to follow their respective courses easily in English medium in
local or foreign universities
4.
A large number of books related
to various disciplines have been written in English. They will contribute for
finding new knowledge.
5.
They are able to be involved in
global research activities related to their respective subjects along with the
brilliant academics in the world.
6.
They will have more job
opportunities in both Sri Lanka and overseas countries.
7.
They can begin their own
business or get employed in a leading organization from where they are capable
of gaining huge income.
